What is the Criterion Card?

Welcome to the Criterion prescription discount card! This free program is brought to you by the Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation, a not-for-profit organization formed to reduce the cost of prescription medications, in collaboration with MemberHealth. There is no enrollment form of eligibility requirements to recieve a card.

How do I use my Criterion prescription discount card?

To use your card, simply present the Criterion discount card to your pharmacist, along with the enclosed brochure. By using the Criterion discount card you are assured of automatically receiving the best price for covered medications. You will still have to pay for your prescriptions, but by using the card, you should save money on most. Please note that except for the items listed in the brochure, and medication list neither Criterion, nor your pharmacist can tell you in advance how much you will save on a particular prescription. In some cases you may already be receiving the lowest price possible.

How much will I save?

Preferred Products: With its group purchasing power, MemberHealth works with major prescription drug manufacturers to obtain special discounts for you on the preferred brand prescriptions drugs. The enclosed brochure supplies you an example of medications and their special prices. Click here for a complete listing of the preferred brand medications and their prices.

Some brand name medications, which are chemically or therapeutically similar to drugs listed on the web site, are not discounted. You will pay your pharmacist's usual cash price for these medications. All prices are subject to change due to manufacturer price changes.

Can I use my Criterion prescription discount card with my current prescription coverage?

If you have a separate prescription co-pay card, or any kind of prescription drug card with your health insurance, the Criterion Plan does not work because you are required to use the card provided to you by your Health Insurance Company or HMO. You are not allowed to use both cards. If you have traditional insurance, where you pay for your drugs first and then submit a claim for reimbursement, generally you can use the Criterion Plan.

Can I use my own pharmacy?

Yes. You may use your card at any of the over 45,000 participating chain and independent pharmacies nationwide. If your pharmacy is not a network provider, they can sign up at any time without cost. Just give us the name, address and phone number and we will mail our registration materials to them so they may join our network. Your pharmacy may also call our customer service line at 1-888-868-5854 to request these materials.

What if my pharmacy doesn't recognize the card?

Pharmacies may not be familiar with every prescription program in which they participate. If the pharmacist does not recognize your Criterion card or if you encounter a problem at the pharmacy, DO NOT leave without having the pharmacy call the toll-free number printed on the ID card.

Can I call my pharmacist and receive prices over the telephone?

No. Your pharmacies cannot give you the cost of your medication over the telephone until you take your Criterion card and prescription to the pharmacy. When you use a participating pharmacy, the information from your ID card will be loaded into the pharmacist's computer and transmitted electronically. The computer system automatically informs the pharmacist of the proper amount to collect from you. This whole process only takes a few seconds.
