Iowa Prescription Drug Donation Program

What is the Iowa Prescription Drug Donation Program?

Welcome to the Iowa Prescription Drug Donation Program. The Iowa Department of Public Health contracted with the Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation to develop and administer a statewide drug donation program.

The program was established per Iowa Code 135M.4 and Iowa Administrative Rule (Chapter 109). The program is to make available prescription medications, excluding controlled substances, to eligible individuals. Medications will be available to those who are eligible from local repositories that volunteer to participate in the program beginning July 2007.

Who is eligible to participate?

To be eligible for the program and to receive medications an individual must be a resident of the state of Iowa and one of the following:
  1. Uninsured or underinsured
  2. At or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level

How do I utilize the Iowa Prescription Drug Program?

If you would like to donate medications or sign up your medical facility to be a repository please read our Frequently Asked Questions or contact our office.

If you are interested in receiving donated medications you must first visit a Local Repository. During your visit the staff at your Local Repository will determine if you are eligible to participate, help you enroll in the program, and explain how you will receive your medications. If there is not a Local Repository listed for you community please call our office at 1-866-282-5817, and we can discuss other options to help you access the Prescription Drug Donation Program.
