Guidelines for Utilizing the Iowa Collaborative Safety Net Provider Network/IPDC Medication Discount Card
The Iowa Collabrative Safety Net Provider Network in collaboration with the Iowa Prescription Drug Corporation developed the medication discount card program which is administered by MemberHealth, a pharmacy benefit manager.
The program is designed for patients with no prescription insurance or limited coverage who are utilizing rural health clinics and having difficulty obtaining their medications due to financial constraints. These patients may not have access to other discount programs found in larger areas (such as $4 generic programs).
There is no enrollment fee and no age or income limits. Only one card is needed per family and patients may continue to utilize their preferred local pharmacy.
The card provides savings on all medications. The average discount is around 15%. Maximum savings will be realized by utilizing generic medications.
Commonly prescribed medication lists are available at www.iowasafetynet.com by disease state and by alphabetical order classified by price level. It is important that prescribers write for the product and quantity specified in order for the patient to realize the pricing listed.
Please note:
The discount card is NOT insurance.
The card will not provide additional savings off medications copayment or coinsurance responsibilities for patients who have insurance coverage.
Patients with Medicare Part D who are currently in the doughnut hole should NOT utilize this card UNLESS they are sure they will not be able to get out fot eh doughnut hole before the end of the year. Patients who have the ability to pay for their medications should continue to fill them under their Medicare Part D policy so they will get credit for spending enough to get out of the doughnut hole.
